WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog #42 on sale now from IDW.
The stakes have never been higher for Sonic and his friends. With so many catastrophes averted and bad guys defeated it seems impossible to think danger could still lurk around the corner. But the Deadly Six have infiltrated the Restoration’s secret base, and if that wasn’t bad enough, the evil Dr. Starline has broken in as well. But in Sonic the Hedgehog #42 by Ian Flynn, Tracy Yardley, Matt Froese, and Matt Herms, Sonic and the Restoration have an ace up their sleeve in the form of the Zeti Zapper. But will Tails’ new invention be enough to stop the Deadly Six?
The Deadly Six have long been one of the most dangerous forces of evil that Sonic has ever faced. While Dr. Eggman wants only to rule the world, the Deadly Six have sought to warp it entirely to their evil designs. The Deadly Six previously used the Metal Virus, a virus capable of turning organic matter into zombified metal, and the resulting Zombot Horde to try and take over the world. It was a battle that seemed hopeless as team after team of heroes fell before the villains. But the day was saved and the Metal Virus, Zombot Horde, and Deadly Six were all defeated.
But now the Deadly Six have returned with the knowledge of where the Restoration’s secret base is located. The element of surprise in their attack proved incredibly effective as the villains were met with hardly any resistance. Their attack was swift and efficient, as untold destruction and chaos spread throughout the hidden base within moments. Making matters even worse is the fact that Dr. Starline has kidnapped Belle. The situation is dire and it seems like only a miracle can help the heroes prevail.
However, Sonic and the others have a surprise of their own in the form of Tails’ new invention, the Zeti Zapper. A small device similar in size to Dr. Starline’s Tricore, the Zeti Zapper is capable of completely incapacitating the Deadly Six. Tails explains that he was able to create it by reverse engineering Zavok’s Chaos Emerald Siphoner, and the Zapper can turn the Deadly Six’s electro-magnetic powers against themselves thus rendering them harmless. Additionally, Tails also created the Zeti Launcher, a rocket that can transport the Deadly Six to Lost Hex.
The only problem with these amazing new tools is that they haven’t been tested. The absolute worse case scenario is that Tails attempts to use the Zeti Zapper and it doesn’t work at all.. The Deadly Six haven proven themselves to be some of the worst threats Sonic has ever faced and having to rely on devices that haven’t even been field-tested is not the most reassuring of plans.
Tails is famous for his brilliant mechanical prowess so there is a good chance that the Zeti Zapper will work just fine. There are few people in the world who can match Tails in his engineering skills save for Dr. Eggman and Dr. Starline. With Sonic intercepting the Deadly Six inside Restoration HQ it looks like Tails’ new inventions are going to be put to the test sooner rather than later.
