The world’s greatest crossover is still growing!
The newest entry in the world’s greatest crossover series(totally unbiased) is without a doubt one of the most anticipated and ambitious in the series with every single fighter from the series making a return with several new faces joining them in the ring! For those who have been following the series for a while, you know that this entry has proved to surpass all expectations in terms of roster additions so far. With such highly requested fighters such as Dark Samus, Simon Belmont, King K. Rool and even the once far to large space pirate Ridley, one can only imagine who else may follow. However, we’re gonna go out on a limb here and say that Masahiro Sakurai is doing everything he can to fill every fan requested character out there as it seems and we can only suspect that there will be many more highly touted fighters entering the fray in the future. Now let’s take a look at some of the more likely fighters that may make there debut in the 5th (or 6th depending on how you view them) entry in the series.
First Appearance: Sonic Adventure 2
If there is any fighter on this list that I would bet money on them making there debut, it would absolutely be Sonic’s friend/rival Shadow the Hedgehog. There is a pretty good amount of evidence to prove it when you tie it all together. First of all, Shadow appears to have been replaced by Knuckles as the Sonic series assist trophy, this proved to be true for Dark Samus as she was revealed to be promoted to full fighter. I believe 100% that Shadow will make his fighter debut as an echo fighter of the blue blur and the world will love it!
First Appearance: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
If you aren’t aware of who this character is, your in plentiful company. Geno is a doll brought to life by a star soldier and joins up with Mario’s party to defeat the evil Smithy. He was an instant favorite and has yet to appear in the Smash series despite such fan popularity. The demand for him is definitely there and it would appear that guest characters are becoming more and more prevalent in the series. Sakurai himself has even shown interest in the wooden warrior, and he even had a Mii costume in Wii and 3DS versions of Smash. But I guess only time will tell.
5. Paper Mario
First Appearance: Paper Mario
I know what your thinking! But Cameron, there’s already two versions of Mario in the game, why should they add another one! Well, let me tell you why; Paper Mario would play absolutely nothing like Mario and Dr. Mario. He has numerous partners that he could call on, he has a sticker book full of powers, as well as a trusty hammer, and the Star Spirits and Crystal Stars that he can call on. I just feel there is so much to this character that would allow for him to be a truly unique and engaging fighter.
First Appearance: ARMS
When Nintendo released ARMS, it was likely with the hopes that it would stand out in the fighter genre in the same way that Splatoon did in the shooter genre. While it may not have reached those exact expectations, it has developed it own following and many players find themselves coming back everytime a new party crash takes place. ARMS is likely to get a rep and the obvious choice would likely be Spring-Man as he is the mascot of the series, but we may also see Twintelle or even Helix.
3. Bandana Waddle Dee
First Appearance: Kirby Super Star Ultra
Who doesn’t love the little pink puffball hero of Dreamland? I think people would agree that it is time the he got a little more company in the roster. With the big three of the series already in the game, there really is only one viable option. The recurring hero, simple and basic as he may be, Bandana Dee has a large following and with his trusty spear, he is actually quite the capable fighter and I’m certain he would make a great addition to the series. Plus, the Kirby series is also a creation the Smash director Masahiro Sakurai so why wouldn’t he want to add in another one of his characters.
First Appearance: Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Before Shulk made his appearance in the Smash series, Xenoblade was a relatively unknown title with most of the world. However, that has most certainly changed since then. Many are hoping and praying that Rex, along with Pyra and Mythra make the cut for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Their power is undeniable and your skills unique. The general consensus is that they would function in a similar manner to the Pokemon Trainer, with Rex doing the dirty work and Pyra/Mythra floating in the background powering up Rex. and he would obviously have the ability to swap between them.
First Appearance: The Legend of Zelda
If I had to choose on of the more likely candidates to be added to Smash from the lengthy history of The Legend of Zelda then only one really comes to mind. That fighter is none other than the chief of the Sheikah tribe herself, Impa. While Skull Kid is a viable option as well, I had to go with Impa as she is more of a mainstay character in the series. Looking at the fighters who have already made the cut, they all have made multiple appearances in mainstream Zelda titles. She is a fierce warrior with a wide array of moves and I think if Zelda is to get another rep it should be Impa.
